Pokemon Walk Release 3 is out!

Version 3 puts the WALK back into the game. This should clear up another large set of early bugs, and rebalance the game towards walking.  A lot of permutations and one-offs were exposed in the first week that should now be cleared up.

In a game with over 1,400 options, the only metric I want to look at is "Can you use your favorites?" If you want to be a Vivillon collector and use them to take out raid bosses, that should be possible. I have also confirmed that leaving the app on while driving is currently the optimal way to play, and that's not what I want out of Pokemon Walk.  This update should ensure both that any pokemon can be used to win, and that walking helps your game more than driving.

Walking now makes pokemon dramatically more powerful. If you catch a pokemon while moving at walking speed, it will get 15% more combat power than before. Conversely, pokemon caught while driving receive a 15% debuff. You can still use them, and the strongest will still be viable for combat, but if you want to get the most out of them you'll have to spend more resources on them or spend more time walking and exploring with them. You will also gain 1% combat power for every 1km you walk with your buddy. For the average person, that's a 5% power boost for every hour of walking.  That seems short, but I expect that players will be swapping buddies to keep at least a full team of 6 ready for battles. Finally, you'll get resources 4x faster now when walking. This shrinks the gap between walking and driving, though driving will still get more stardust/coins at most speeds. If you jog or run so that the game updates your position to a new cell twice a second (the internal maximum), you might actually earn more resources than by driving.

Raid bosses were pushovers. I have given them some extra health, so you may need to actually build and train a team to defeat them now. Once your player level is high enough, you'll also start to see raid bosses spawn at higher levels so that some of them will remain a challenge if you play persistently.

Finally, consider pushing "Export Data" in the Options screen on your game before installing the update. I have tested the upgrade process and it worked for me, therefore it should work for you, but having a backup is always a good idea.

Changelog:

  • Several alternate-form evolution lines should work correctly now.
  • Pokemon that transform should have their transformation button correctly visible now, and include the baseline form when rotating between forms.
  • The pokemon inventory screen now adds pokemon after the window is loaded, making it much more responsive than before.
  • The pokemon inventory screen should no longer randomly blank out and fail to refill.
  • Kleavor's sprite appears correctly now.
  • Raid button now shows you the remaining time until raids reset
  • Raid bosses now get a 2.5x HP boost.
  • Raid bosses can now be fought at higher levels. The max scales with your player level.
  • To encourage visiting places, the buddy places bonus is now a 1% per place multiplier, up from 0.5%
  • To encourage walking, you get 4x stardust, candy, and XP when walking.
  • To encourage walking, each 1km walked with a buddy multiplies their combat power by 1%
  • To encourage walking,  pokemon caught while walking now gain a 15% combat power multiplier and pokemon caught while in a vehicle now lose 15% of their combat power.
    • Pokemon caught in earlier versions of the game will not get walking/driving multipliers.
    • "Walking" is generously defined as 5.5 meters/second, or 12 miles/hour, or 19 kilometers/hour. This was chosen as it's the record pace for a men's marathon, and the odds of you setting an olympic record on a casual stroll while looking at your phone are dramatically lower than the odds that you're in a moving motor vehicle.
