Research Fleet: Control
A downloadable game for Android
Research Fleet: Control is a location-based game about exploring into an area of space new to you and making your claim there. You are a captain in Research Fleet, tasked to study and discover phenomena and civilizations in your area, engage in diplomacy with any spacefaring species you find, and ultimately establish Research Fleet as a strong and welcome member of the community.
RF:C is still early in development. The goal is to have a locative game that makes you want to get out of the house, and go new places. Unlike most games, RF:C will treat different types of places differently, so going to a library will give you different in-game results than going to a nature reserve. In addition, it works globally without a network connection, though you can get detailed maps if you allow the game to use a network connection to download complete data.
Tech Preview 1 is an alpha release. The core mechanical elements are present, but story and theming are absent. Bugs are present, possibly in large numbers. The UI is set up for development and is not at all user friendly. But, if you want to get a glimpse of how this game will work, you can grab it and walk around.
Improvements from Weekend Space Command's prototype include downloading minimum data, drawing map tiles on demand, a full-screen live scrolling map, and other smaller tweaks.
The game works globally, including offline data if you have no internet or do not want to use it. If you allow it, the game will pull map data as necessary to continue drawing map tiles.
